Some girls celebrate sweet sixteen a bit differently than others. For these girls it's not even a celebration, but a desire to better themselves, to prove themselves. The victory of a brutal battle means their lives will be improved, either physically or emotionally.
Meet Zima, a delicious chocolate treasure from Africa. Zima's family is not a bad of as others in her country, but she knows they can be better. Winning the Kid Gloves title means money for her family, enough to even get her at least a year in college. Once there, she'll find a way to get through the other three.
Zima's opponent is Kerri, from Scandinavia, Finland to be exact. Her friends joke that she should go by the name "Fists of Finland." But for Kerri, this isn't a joke. Her family is wealthy, and they don't expect much from Kerri. Live a social life, keep her name in the papers. But Kerri wants more, she wants respect for herself as a person. Something no one in her family, or their friends, give her. Winning the Kid Gloves event means she doesn't have to rely on her family for her place in the world. Just her fists.
So these ladies are the finalists. It's taken them a year to get here, to this place, in this ring, facing off, being introduced, awaiting the bell. They have no animosity toward each other. They don't even see a person - just an obstacle to that which is most important.
An obstacle that must be... removed.
